Best Ways to Save Money on Rubbish Removal

Rubbish removal can be expensive, especially if you have a lot of waste that needs to be removed or loaded into a skip. A lot of our customers commonly ask, how much does skip hire cost? To be honest, it isn’t a set-in-stone answer, and it’s down to a couple of different contributing factors.

At Bushbury Skip Hire, we always aim to be as competitive as possible with our pricing and price match other like-for-like quotes. We’ve also done extensive industry research and have compiled a few tips that can help to reduce the amount of waste that needs loading into a skip, to try and reduce the size of skip required and in turn, save you money.

Donate rather than bin

Just because objects are in your waste pile doesn’t mean they’d be in someone else’s waste pile. Donation is a kind way to handle some types of waste and is a method that could save you some money (and room in your skip) when it comes to rubbish removal.

Rather than paying for a large skip to fit all of your waste in, ask yourself, would someone else benefit from it? Obviously, broken pieces of wood and plasterboard are unlikely to be donated, but things like old furniture, toys or clothes could be perfect for charity.

Donate to family & friends

Donation doesn’t just mean giving to charity, another great option to reduce the amount of waste that you’re putting in a skip is to ask friends and family if anyone would like any of the things that you’re throwing away. For example, if you’re throwing away a lot of wood; do you know anyone with a log/wood burner in their house? You’d be surprised just what they might take off your hands which will save you valuable space in your skip.

Recycle

As a registered waste carrier, and aiming to donate 90% of all waste that we collect ourselves, we encourage all of our customers to increase their recycling efforts. Before hiring a skip, consider whether any of the items you’re throwing away can be reused or recycled. There are always fun and creative ways to encourage recycling efforts, preventing useful items from being thrown out unnecessarily and saving space in your skip.

Break down bulky waste

The price of skip hire is primarily based on the size of skip you need, which in turn is based on the amount (or size) of the waste that needs to be put in a skip. It makes sense to maximise the amount of space in your skip and aim to reduce the size of the waste you’re putting in a skip by breaking down objects.

For example, if you’re throwing a table and chairs set away (you should first aim to donate, upcycle, or even sell it) – But just throwing four chairs and a table into a skip is going to take up a large area by volume, and there will be a lot of unoccupied space that you’ll struggle to fill around the table and chairs. What you should do, is break the objects down to minimise the amount of wasted space in a skip by separating the objects and putting them in separately. The less amount of space you need to use, the smaller a skip you can hire and the more money you’ll save.

Share the skip & half the cost

If hiring a skip is the best option, but you don’t think you’ll be able to fill a skip entirely by yourself, then you should consider sharing it with a neighbour. Not only does this help to reduce your carbon footprint and be more environmentally friendly, but it will also cut the cost of skip hire in half. You can still use all of the space in the skip and won’t need to worry about overspill.

Skips are always high in demand and there are people that need to use them all the time, there’s bound to be a neighbour, friend or family member that would benefit from borrowing some skip space while splitting some of the cost.

Order the right size

Probably an obvious entry to this list, but ordering the right-sized skip is going to have a big say in how much skip hire costs. Ordering a skip too big and you’ll be paying out for space that you won’t be using, and ordering a skip that’s too small might lead you to require an additional collection/drop off or to hire it for additional days which will add to the price.

At Bushbury Skip Hire, we have a range of skip sizes to choose from, so if you’re looking to hire a skip in Wolverhampton, look at our skip range below:
